Spirit Wear Day
Friday, June 7
At SJB, we celebrate our school spirit by wearing either SJB wear that you can purchase from the school or blue and white one Friday a month.
Jolly Phonics
All year
Our class will be starting the Jolly Phonics program at the end of this month. Jolly Phonics will help strengthen literacy skills by teaching students about the different letter sounds. Students will learn a new phonics sound in the order that the program suggests to introduce them. We will practice each sound for two days. For each new sound students will:
-Make the sound and do the action that goes along with it
- Read words out loud and discuss where that sound is located in the word
-Write the letter multiple time.
Rainbow Words, Home Reading and Small Reading Groups
The rainbow letter sheet sent home prior to the break will be part of our daily practice. Once your child becomes comfortable with the words, please let me know and I can test them on them so that they can move along at the pace that they set for themselves.
Home Reading books will be sent home on Monday. They will get three books per week. These books are for them to mimic what we do in our Small Reading Groups. The initial focus is how books/ text is organized and the child is expected to point the words as they are read and following the direction that text is recorded.

Father's Day Building Activity
Tuesday, June 11: 8:30 a.m.- 10:30 a.m(OOA), 12:00 p.m.- 2:00 p.m. (OOB)
Grade 1 Orientation Day
Thursday, June 13
The Kindergarten students will explore the grade 1 classrooms and get a buddy to show them what a morning in grade 1 looks like. This is for all 4 classes whether your child is normally here in the a.m. or p.m. from 8:10 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. Parents will meet us at the grade 1 doors behind the school on the same side as the parking lot. Please do not send backpacks- just a lunch kit with a snack and water bottle.
Dress Like a Teacher Day
Friday, June 14
Students can show some school spirit by dressing up like a teacher, and teachers will come to school dressed up like students!
Full day Fun Day/Beach Day for both classes
Tuesday, June 25
Dress in your beach attire! (No swimsuits)
Year End Celebration
Wednesday, June 26
Families are welcome to join us on our last day of school for our classroom year end celebration to watch our class slideshow and pass out our portfolios.
OOA: 8:45 a.m.- 9:15 a.m.
OOB: 1:45 p.m.- 2:15 p.m.

Google Classroom
Log on to your child's Google Classroom for activities to enhance and reinforce what we are learning. These activities can also be used if your child is unable to attend school for a day. Passwords for this site will be emailed shortly.

Reading- Home Reading
Every week your child will come home with 3 new leveled reading books in their blue bag. Please have your child read these books every night. Please ensure that the books are returned every Monday as new ones cannot be given until the previous ones have been returned.
